Hello From Hamtramck
I see this as phenomenal news for the blog. Before I was writing from a common Christian cultural perspective, and was somewhat limited in scope. Here I'm writing from the margins and am able to glimpse the gospel and the word of God from a new perspective. In a city where Islam dominates and language barriers create obstacles to the good news, a new measure of faith is given in the power and effectiveness of God's word. It still does not return void. It is still sufficient and God's grace is still more than enough.
More posts will come very soon. Many will look at the effectiveness of the Word across cultural lines, and how the missionary perspective changes the way you read the Bible.
I cannot describe this place to you. I could give you lists of statistics (and I probably will later), but for now I will simply say that this is city like Ninevah, currently under the wrath of God, but with a deep potential for repentance and city-wide transformation. Let me leave you with a brief glimpse of the streets of Hamtramck. More to come!
Please pray for the city if God lays it on your heart. I hope to post a few more times this week and more pictures will come. I promise a return to the blog's original purpose, but perhaps with a more missional flavor.
